As San Diego State University’s men’s and women’s basketball programs continued to build national recognition, the University invested in the Jeff Jacobs JAM Center to provide a dedicated basketball performance facility that would strengthen recruitment, support student-athlete development and reinforce the culture of Aztec Basketball. Designed to provide equivalent facilities for both programs in keeping with Title IX, the center establishes a permanent home for training, preparation and team development that reflects the pride, tradition and aspirations of one of the nation’s premier Division I basketball programs.

Located adjacent to Viejas Arena, the 26,000-square-foot facility brings together the spaces needed to support all aspects of student-athlete development. Two practice gymnasiums, including one divisible court, provide year-round training opportunities, while sports medicine, film study, coaches’ offices, locker rooms, team lounges and support spaces create an integrated environment that supports preparation, recovery and performance.

Carefully planned adjacencies encourage collaboration between student-athletes, coaches and support staff, allowing the programs to function efficiently and fostering the relationships that contribute to long-term success. By providing facilities comparable to those of the nation’s leading basketball programs, the JAM Center strengthens San Diego State’s ability to recruit, develop and support future generations of Aztec student-athletes.

More than a training facility, the JAM Center was conceived as the home of the basketball program—a place where student-athletes prepare, connect and develop as teammates. Throughout the building, environmental graphics, displays celebrating team accomplishments and integrated branding reinforce the history, traditions and identity of Aztec Basketball, creating an immersive environment that instills pride and reminds players they are part of something larger than themselves.

Dedicated spaces for team interaction foster camaraderie beyond practices and games, while welcoming areas for alumni, donors and supporters reinforce the strong community that has contributed to the program’s continued success.

Constructed on a challenging hillside site adjacent to Viejas Arena, the clean, contemporary architecture complements the surrounding campus and creates a distinct identity that expresses the energy, focus and competitive spirit that define Aztec Basketball. More than a performance facility, the JAM Center provides a lasting home for the traditions, relationships and aspirations that continue to shape Aztec Basketball.
