Jamul Casino Resort Hotel

JCJ served as design architect, architect of record, and interior designer for a new 16-story luxury hotel at Jamul Casino Resort in Jamul, California. Developed for the Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation, the 371,000-square-foot expansion introduces a new level of luxury hospitality to the region while supporting the Tribe’s continued economic development. The hotel provides a sophisticated retreat for guests and an elevated hospitality experience that complements the energy of the existing casino.

With a vision to create an iconic presence along Highway 94 while remaining sensitive to the surrounding community, JCJ developed a design language that reflects the evolution of the resort. The site’s unique environmental and cultural conditions – including a protected wetland and tribal burial ground – called for a thoughtful approach to the landscape, views, privacy, and overall building placement.

The hotel is conceived as a crystalline “jewel box” floating against the Jamul Mountains, creating a dialogue between the valley, the existing casino, and the surrounding landscape. A distinctive horizontal architectural plane extends from the existing casino, gracefully spanning the wetlands before wrapping over the hotel tower. Fritted glass, vertical fins, suite balconies, and an expressive acute corner respond to the site while creating a distinctive identity visible from the surrounding valley and highway.

Inside, the hotel offers a deliberate transition from the high-energy casino environment to a more tranquil, immersive guest experience. Natural light, sweeping views, and a palette inspired by the Jamul Valley bring the surrounding landscape into the interiors. Guestrooms and suites feature refined, timeless materials and subtle references to the region’s mountains, flora, and fauna, while signature accommodations—including the Panoramic and Sunrise Suites—provide expansive views and highly personalized amenities.

The resort’s amenities extend this connection to nature through a collection of distinctive experiences. Jamul 23, the hotel’s specialty restaurant, uses expansive glazing, green walls, warm wood, and natural materials to create a biophilic dining environment. The Jamul Spa provides a serene retreat with outdoor access, hydrotherapy, natural light, and mountain-inspired interiors. At the top of the tower, the Starlite Pool offers sweeping valley views, cabanas, a Baja ledge, and a pool bar, transforming from a peaceful daytime retreat into an atmospheric entertainment destination beneath the stars.

For the resort’s most valued guests, the hotel introduces a collection of exclusive experiences, including the intimate Fly Room speakeasy and the Signature Club high-limit gaming lounge.
