JCJ has been designing hospitality-forward environments since the early 1990’s. In 2023, the firm joined forces with Group One Partners, a firm founded in 1970 and specializing in Architectural and Interior Design for the hotel and hospitality industry. JCJ’s collective portfolio of hotel work includes hundreds of properties and exceeds $55 billion in value.

From the historic restoration to adaptive reuse, from branded hotels to small boutique properties, from hotels on college campuses to hotels on mixed-use resort properties.  Both construction and renovation projects range from smaller scale boutique properties to large scale 1,00+ room resorts and convention hotels

The firm has completed projects that have met all requirements for preservation and sensitivity in design. JCJ is skilled in the National Park Service and local jurisdiction historic preservation agencies. 

Select projects include renovation for the 18-key Zane Gray Pueblo hotel on Catalina Island, California and conversion of a 1901-warehouse in Boston’s Seaport District to a 120-key Residence Inn with an industrial loft vibe.

Every historic project has a specific set of parameters and requires a special sensibility to overcome the unique challenges and amazing opportunities presented by these projects.  

JCJ has completed renovations projects in Boston which enforces some of the strictest building and most aggressive sustainability regulations in the U.S.

While the city’s specialized energy code mandates Passive House compliance for new multifamily buildings, commercial hotels generally utilize Passive House principles as an approved, high-performance compliance pathway for the MA Stretch Code. Projects have also met Boston’s Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO) which requires large buildings to hit emissions standards that decrease incrementally, leading to net-zero emissions by 2050. 

Yes. JCJ has successfully navigated complex regulatory environments in challenging jurisdictions including New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, Chicago and several other major locations throughout the states. 

JCJ has also navigated requirements related to development on waterfront developments, heavily contaminated brownfield sites working closely with the EPA, governmentally controlled sites and sites under the jurisdiction of the FAA. 

JCJ provides master planning services as a core offering of our practice. Master planning for hospitality properties typically encompasses site analysis, phasing strategy, amenity floor programming, hotel and amenity placement, parking and circulation, and long-term expansion planning.

JCJ has completed hospitality projects across 49 states, with active or completed work in all states with the exception of Alaska and has the licensing and project delivery infrastructure to work nationally.
