James E. LaPosta, Jr., FAIA, LEED AP is an architect and design leader recognized for advancing community-centered design and high-performance public facilities. As Chief Architectural Officer at JCJ, Jim leads the firm’s architectural practice, overseeing design excellence, technical quality, professional standards, sustainability and professional licensure. He works across offices and with JCJ’s leadership to cultivate a collaborative design culture grounded in thoughtful inquiry, sound judgment and exceptional client service.
Over his 40 years of practice, Jim has specialized in the planning and design of K–12 schools, higher education facilities, performing arts venues, sports and recreation facilities and projects serving Native American communities. His work focuses on creating environments that strengthen institutions and reflect the priorities of the communities they serve. Known for collaborative leadership and consensus building, Jim works closely with institutional leaders and community stakeholders to develop design solutions that balance project vision, operational needs and long-term value.
A nationally recognized leader, Jim has contributed to the profession at the state, regional and national levels. He served as National Chair of the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Education and led JCJ’s collaboration with the American Architectural Foundation’s Design for Learning initiative, helping advance best practices connecting architecture, education and student success. In 2013, he was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of his contributions to educational design and the practice of architecture.
