CONNECTICUT DEPT. OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, TECHNICAL EDUCATION & CAREER SYSTEM | BRIDGEPORT, CT

Bullard-Havens Technical High School reimagines career and technical education for a new generation of learners, creating a modern campus that prepares students for college, careers and the skilled workforce. Serving students from Bridgeport, Fairfield, Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull, as well as a robust evening adult education program, the new campus advances the mission of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.

Developed in close collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services, the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System and the Office of School Construction Grants, the replacement campus integrates academic learning, career and technical education, athletics and community resources within a highly efficient learning environment designed to support collaboration, flexibility and hands-on instruction.

Purpose-built spaces support a broad range of career pathways, including Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Electrical, Graphic Design, Hairdressing & Cosmetology, Health Technology, Information Systems Technology (IST), Masonry, Plumbing & Heating, Precision Machining, Sustainable Architecture and Criminal Justice & Protective Services.

The project was delivery using a phased, build new/tear down methodology that enabled the existing school to remain in operation during construction. With the new school complete and occupied, phase 2 of the work began which includes demolition of the existing, construction of a new field house and athletic fields.

Designed to achieve net zero fossil fuel use, the project was delivered through a carefully phased build new/tear down strategy that allowed the existing school to remain fully operational throughout construction and creating a 21st century campus that reflects the future of career and technical education.

Bullard-Havens is Connecticut’s first net-zero on-site fossil fuel use technical high school.
