USJ Center for Applied Research & Education (CARE)
UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH | WEST HARTFORD, CT
The University of Saint Joseph engaged JCJ to design the Center for Applied Research and Education (CARE), expanding the capacity and capabilities of the adjacent Gengras Center to better serve children with cognitive, physical and behavioral disabilities while advancing the University’s commitment to education, research and community engagement. The addition enhances educational and vocational programs while creating new opportunities for applied learning, professional training and family support.
Designed to support students with a wide range of learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, the CARE Center provides specialized classrooms, spaces for physical education and art instruction, and environments that foster individualized learning and development. As a stand-alone facility supporting the adjacent Gengras Center, the building expands the University’s capacity to serve additional students while providing flexible environments that can adapt to evolving educational programs and teaching methods.
The CARE Center extends the University’s role as a leader in specialized education by creating a place where teaching, applied learning and research come together in support of children, families and educators. Training and classroom facilities for students enrolled in the University’s Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis program provide opportunities to learn alongside practicing professionals in a real-world educational setting. By connecting specialized education with professional preparation and community-based services, JCJ helped create a facility that advances the University’s mission while strengthening its impact beyond campus.
