Dillon Stadium / Trinity Health Stadium

Originally opened as Dillon Stadium, this historic field and stadium was originally constructed in the 1930’s. Set within Hartford’s historic Coltsville neighborhood, the facility had been used over decades for sporting events, concerts and large community festivals. Eventually falling into disrepair, there was a resurgence of interest in the stadium following the multimillion-dollar, mixed-use redevelopment of the Colt Manufacturing complex and conversion into Colt Gateway.

With a plan bring a United Soccer League franchise to Hartford, Hartford Sports Group (HSG) engaged the team of JCJ and Odell to undertake full planning and design services for renovations to Dillon Stadium. HSG is a partnership of 3 local businesspeople who have a love for the game of soccer, a deep commitment to the City of Hartford and a belief that Dillon should be brought back to its place of honor in the region.

To meet the stipulations of the USL agreement, Dillon Stadium, now Trinity Health Stadium, was fully renovated for a capacity of 7,500 spectators. The project scope included: a press box, synthetic turf that meets FIFA 2 Star requirements and the City of Hartford infill requirements; cost-effective approaches to premium offerings (VIP space, field seats, etc.) as well as other revenue-generating opportunities. A 1930s brick locker room has been repurposed to house ticket sales, offices, concessions, a team store and restroom facilities.

Today, HSG and the Hartford Athletics Football Club are the primary tenant of a facility owned by the City of Hartford, managed by the State of Connecticut’s Capital Region Development Authority.
