State of Connecticut Juvenile Courts & Detention Center, Bridgeport

The Bridgeport Juvenile Court and Detention Center, completed by JCJ in association with Ricci Greene Associates, was designed to provide a safe and effective environment for the management of at-risk youth. Located on a remediated brownfield site along the Housatonic River, the complex includes two buildings connected by a vehicular sally port, four courtrooms, and a detention facility that has capacity for up to 84 individuals.

The project integrates secure spaces for socialization, education, and medical care in a non-institutional environment with natural light, high ceilings and a warm color palette. This highly secure building includes separate circulation paths for all court and detention functions. The facility has enhanced the community’s image and contributed to the downtown Bridgeport revitalization. The completed facility has earned official accreditation from the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
