Trinity College Liberal Arts Action Lab

Launching its first downtown academic presence, Trinity College established the Liberal Arts Action Lab as a new model for connecting students, faculty and Hartford community organizations through applied research and civic engagement. At the Action Lab, Hartford community partners propose semester-long research projects to pursue in collaboration with student and faculty teams from Trinity College and CT State Community College Capital.

Located in Constitution Plaza, JCJ Architecture transformed 6,433 square feet of existing commercial office space into a bright, welcoming and highly adaptable learning environment designed to support collaboration, engagement and interdisciplinary problem-solving.

Organized around a flexible collaboration space immediately adjacent to the main entry, the Action Lab features responsive technology, movable furnishings and a variety of meeting spaces that accommodate everything from one-on-one mentoring sessions to formal presentations and community workshops. Two large community tables crafted from locally sourced wood reinforce the collaborative nature of the space while creating a welcoming setting for discussion and shared learning.
