Essex Street Hotel

Located in Boston’s vibrant Chinatown neighborhood, an area renowned for its rich tapestry of shops, restaurants, and cultural landmarks, the proposed 17-story hotel is envisioned to include approximately 250 guestrooms.

Rather than focusing on a single signature element, the design team’s goal was to create a signature building—one that serves as a defining landmark for the neighborhood and its community. The façade design draws inspiration from the area’s textile heritage, weaving together the diverse architectural styles of the neighborhood into a cohesive and visually striking composition.

This quilt-like fabric of interconnected façade elements celebrates Chinatown’s historic character while adding a contemporary layer to its urban identity. The resulting pattern and texture pay homage to the district’s legacy, fostering a sense of unity and pride within the community.
