A Legacy of Design

since 1936

Since our founding in 1936, we have grown from a small firm based in Hartford, Connecticut, to become a nationally recognized practice with 140+ employees across 7 offices. Over 90 years, we have maintained our commitment to delivering industry-leading client service and a focus on excellence in planning, architecture and interior design.

The firm is founded in Hartford by Sherwood Jeter, Jr. as S.F. Jeter, Architect.

Sherwood is joined by accomplished designer Arthur Cook. The firm began operating under the name of Jeter and Cook Architects.

Sherwood and Art transitioned ownership of the firm to Edward Jeter and David Jepson. The firm’s name changes to Jeter, Cook & Jepson Architects. Under Ed and Dave’s leadership, the firm begins to take on projects of greater scale and complexity.

Edward Jeter retires and the firm officially transitions to its third generation of ownership. The firm’s name changes to JCJ Architecture and Peter Stevens is appointed in the role of President.

Jeter, Cook & Jepson acquires Wheeler Wimer Blackman, the oldest continuously operating architecture firm in San Diego.

The firm expands its footprint by opening offices in New York, Phoenix and Boston.

The firm changes its name to JCJ Architecture and transitions its structure to become an Employee Owned Company (ESOP).

JCJ opens offices in Las Vegas and Tulsa.

JCJ acquires Group 1 Partners, a highly respected hotel and hospitality firm with a history of 60 years in practice.
