American novelist Zane Grey built the original hilltop home overlooking Avalon Bay in 1926 – a place to host friends and family, and do much of his Western-style writing. Over the course of a century, the property has served as a private residence and hotel on multiple occasions.

JCJ Architecture renovated and modernized the estate to serve as a boutique hotel. The terraced project includes: the renovation of the 16 key hotel, an addition of a new 3-story hotel tower with 8 new spacious guest rooms; a rooftop terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean; a dining room with service kitchen; multiple gathering spaces; historic renovations, converting the original home into a penthouse suite; and a shared pool deck.
Perched on a cactus-covered hillside overlooking the world-famous Catalina Island Casino building, the hotel offers some of the most spectacular views of Avalon Bay, the town of Avalon and the surrounding mountains of Catalina Island. Each room captures breathtaking views and inspiration from the original Hopi Indian adobe-style home.
