The Hotel and Convention Center expansion introduces complimentary amenities to the successful casino and horse racing facility to support the growth of Mohegan Sun Pocono as a premiere regional hospitality destination in Northeast Pennsylvania.
The project included the development of a 7-story, 238-room hotel, and adjacent, 20,000 square foot convention center, which can accommodate 800 banquet guests and 1,500 seated spectators for performances. The convention center is sub-dividable into smaller areas and includes meeting rooms and a board room. Other amenities include a casual dining area serving breakfast and light fare for hotel guests as well as a small bar for evening socializing, a pool, fitness area, and a spa.
The new spaces integrate with the existing casino by reinforcing the established design vocabulary and continuing a subtle and inventive celebration of the natural features and materials of the immediate region.
The exterior reflects the sculptural appearance of the existing casino with a stone veneer base and horizontal, black quartzite banding which represents stratified layers of coal. Coal has played a significant role in the development of the regions growth and culture. Like the casino, the interior design throughout the expansion draws inspiration directly from the landscape - the flora, the wildlife, the natural resources and the personality of the Pocono Mountain-Susquehanna River Valley area.
