Hartford , CT – The 2016 AIA Connecticut People’s Choice Award has named JCJ Architecture’s Hartford office as the winner in the category of Favorite Space to Work. The project involved the renovation and adaptation of former manufacturing space in the Colt East Armory building into a dynamic and functional studio environment for JCJ’s 70 local employees.

JCJ put its skills to the test when reinventing this historic and rugged space to promote collaboration and creativity among its employees. Located directly under the iconic Colt dome, the space blends original materials and historic features with contemporary design concepts and integrated technology.

JCJ’s new office has become a symbol for the firm’s commitment to sustainable design and to the welfare of its employee-owners. The headquarters is expected to achieve LEED Silver status and has been designed to meet the new and progressive WELL Building Standard.

“It means a great deal to us to be recognized with this award, alongside many other fine projects.” commented Jim LaPosta, FAIA, JCJ’s Chief Architectural Officer and Design Principal on the project. “This project has been incredible – not just to have the opportunity to design within such a historic context but also to come to work here every day has been transformative and uplifting.”

AIA Connecticut, a statewide chapter of the American Institute of Architects, is the profession association for Connecticut architects. For the AIA CT People’s Choice Awards, the public serves as jury, and everyone participates in the selection process. This award program provides an opportunity for the public to vote on which architectural projects are of most appeal in a range of categories.
