Montclair Kimberley Academy Names JCJ ‘Architect of Record’ for its Primary Campus

Hartford, Conn. – April 7, 2015 – JCJ Architecture announces the firm was recently awarded a significant addition and renovation project for Montclair Kimberley Academy – one of the most prestigious independent schools in the Northeast, educating students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 on three separate campuses in Montclair, New Jersey. As Architect of Record, JCJ is tasked with building a new food service/ performing arts facility in addition to  significant renovations to the school’s primary campus to help Montclair Kimberley Academy continue to provide a challenging, innovative and engaging liberal arts environment that develops every student to his or her fullest potential.

“The primary school is the programmatic jewel in Montclair Kimberley Academy’s crown. This project is an opportunity to make the campus a visual representation of that richness,” said Tom Nammack, Head of School at Montclair Kimberley Academy.

The project will reconfigure the school’s primary campus to safely accommodate parent/bus drop-off and playgrounds as well as enhance the site as a neighborhood amenity. JCJ will also expand the building to include a new cafeteria, kitchen and servery – as well as a stage house for the performing arts, which will open to the outdoors to serve as a venue for both the school and the community.

“Montclair Kimberley Academy has entrusted us with designing a school that will jump-start its larger vision for the future,” said Peter G. Bachmann, AIA, Principal and Architect at JCJ Architecture. “Together we will create a space that meets the needs of 21st century learning and continues to foster a high-level of student achievement while being sensitive to the needs of the community.”

Given his more than 25 years of experience in the planning, design and management of education projects throughout the northeast, Bachmann will lead the Montclair Kimberley Academy project for JCJ with Fawn Walton Pelligrini, AIA, serving as project manager and Lauren Braren, AIA, as project architect.

This project adds to JCJ’s involvement with significant independent school projects across the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut region including Hotchkiss School, The Elisabeth Morrow School, Storm King School, Saddle River Day School and The Enfield Montessori School, among others.
