JCJ Architecture was retained to program, conceptualize, and provide schematic design services for a new campus for the Columbia Independent School (CIS.) The CIS is a Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 private school serving 350 college bound students from the greater Columbia area.

The project involved research into the current curriculum and pedagogy, investigation of the existing buildings, space inventory and utilization and the establishment of near and long range goals for the school and its new campus. The new campus is proposed for a site of just over 35 acres outside of the current downtown location. JCJ’s work included analysis of the site and possible cost implication of various construction scenarios. Ultimately a three phase approach was suggested and adopted, allowing the CIS to commence its fundraising efforts. JCJ conducted a series of meetings with representatives of the State, County, City and utilities and provided the information needed to let the CIS proceed confidently toward the construction of their new campus.
